16 July 2010 - Yellowstone Park

OK, we are up and ready to see Yellowstone National Park. We spent the night in Cody Wyoming which is only 30-40 miles East of Yellowstone. The plan today is to drive into the park from the East entrance through the Wapiti Valley. We will then drive around Yellowstone Lake towards Grant Village. Depending upon the crowds we will then see Old Faithful and head north to Canyon and Tower Roosevelt. We will then exit Yellowstone from the North Exit (Mammoth) and head to Bozeman Montana for the night. We are up for a big day of taking pictures and reading brochures today. The weather looks amazing so we should be able to post some nice pictures tonight.  The big news in this part of the world is that a Grizzly killed a man near the East entrance so we won't be going for any long hikes in that part of the park!

The other big news today is that 16 July 2010 is mom and dad's wedding anniversary - They were married in 1994 in Sheridan Wyoming so they now get to celebrate 16 years of marriage. Yellowstone should be a great place to have an anniversary.

  1. Thanks for the map of Yellowstone!

I think Yellowstone is one of the most fascinating places I have ever seen. Hard to believe it is all real--and not just some sort of special effects being put on for my observation when I am standing there.

Sorry to hear about the grizzlie attack. Have never tried hiking in Yellowstone, as I was always a bit leary of the bears.

I don't know how you are finding all your interesting reasearch on the towns and archeology and history. It's a quite a bit of reading, but very interesting--feel like I'm riding along with you and talking about things you are interested in.

Amazing what they are now able to discover about ancient remains and fossils with the newest scientific assessments! And isn't it interesting that people are always initially disagreeing over their interpretations of new findings?!

I can't imagine the enormous amounts of time that have past since the dinosaurs or the immensity of the universe or anything of such great magnitudes. I end up with an overwhelming feeling of mystery, awe, and wonder when pondering such things. Can't keep up with all the nitty gritty science and technology--but love to hear about other people's explorations and interests.

Loved the video--it came out just great!

Today, Zac found out he has to keep his cast on for one more week--and he was BUMMED about not being able to get in the water with you when you get here. He was expecting to get the cast off today, so he is VERY sad. The problem is there still needs to be some more bone growth before the cast comes off and he has pins in his finger so that there is a VERY high risk of infection if his cast gets wet.

Keep up the good work on the blog!

    Love to all,
    Grandma Jinny

  2. Thanks for your comments Grandma - a couple other relatives wrote to us and mentioned that they were unable to post a comment - Looks like they have to sign up with a google account before they are allowed to post any comments.

Isaac broke his arm a couple years ago. Zac he feels your pain. What a bummer that the cast won't come off in time for our visit. But never-mind we will still have tons of fun.

Grandma - we are using some software that finds information on the web that links to the topics we talk about. We have not even read all the links our-self. Good to know the links actually work.
